Advent Calendar - Day 24

12/24/25

Day 24 brings...Christmas Eve...blog?

K and I had Christmas at my parents’ tonight after work... Yes, I had to work Christmas Eve. I couldn’t stay long because I also have to work on Christmas Day. It’s mandatory, but it’s triple pay, so there’s that. I’d obviously rather be home enjoying the holiday with my family, but our CEO insists we stay open to “meet production timelines.” He’ll be keeping us in mind, of course… while he enjoys his own holiday off with his family. I’m not bitter at all. Did I mention it’s triple pay?

Overall I had a great holiday. I really enjoyed this advent, and now that I understand the concept better, I hope to be more prepared next year. I hope you enjoyed it too, and I hope you checked out the others. I hope you all have a great holiday and a great New Years. I will be at work that week as well. That one is also mandatory and triple pay. I imagine our CEO will enjoy the fireworks on our behalf, while he's off for the holiday. I am kidding, of course, I am not bitter. This is a time of celebration and I am grateful to have much to celebrate, I hope you do too!

Addition: l wanted to end this on a different note. Funny story, well kind of. Every year I make eggnog for my family. It started as a small thing, just a batch for my parents, sisters, and a couple friends. I found a recipe a few years back, tried it out, and it ended up being a hit. One of those rare moments where something turns out exactly the way you hoped.
Then one holiday, my mother shared it with my extended family.
More and more people started asking if I could make them a jar too. At first it was flattering. Then it turned into a full on assembly line in my small kitchen. I was spending so much time whisking eggs and heating milk that it stopped feeling like a fun tradition and started feeling like an expensive job.
Eventually I had to shut it down. I told everyone I was not making extra eggnog anymore, and I asked my parents to please not encourage it again. Now I am back to making one batch a year, just for the people I started with. It feels right that way. Simple, manageable, and still something I actually enjoy doing. Six jars is easier than fifteen to twenty.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I'll see you all next year!
